The woman allegedly started swinging a metal weightlifting bar at an officer responding to a domestic dispute just after midnight in San Bernardino.

Police say a man waved down passing officers on Golden Avenue just south of Lynwood. The man reportedly told one of the officers that his wife had locked him out of the house. When the officer walked up to the front door, the wife allegedly came out of the house swinging a curl bar used for weightlifting.

The officer told the woman to put the weight bar down, but she allegedly refused.

"The officer began retreating. The female continually yelled 'I'm going to kill you.' The officer retreated approximately 40 or 50 feet with the female suspect chasing after him. She then took the weightlifting bar in a baseball-type stance, began to swing it at the officer," said Lt. Brian Boom from the San Bernardino Police Department.

When the woman continued coming at the officer with the bar, he shot her several times.

The woman's injuries are not life-threatening. She is in stable condition at a local hospital. She will most likely face charges pending the outcome of the investigation.

The officer was injured in the incident.
