Memorial Day: 'Freedom is not free'

RANCHO PALOS VERDES It was one of the largest in Southern California with about 5,000 people, and the most emotional moments came when locals saw the moving wall, a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.

The memorial has the names of thousands who died in Vietnam and is just as powerful as the one in our nation's capital.

People came by to touch the name of a loved one -- a lost buddy, father or friend. For some it helps in the healing.

"We forget our heroes so quickly. Life is so fast, we really forget the people who really changed our lives," said local resident Shawn Steel.

"Yeah, a lot of good lives lost, and yeah, freedom isn't free. Freedom is not free," said Vietnam veteran Bob Gilles.

This is the last appearance for the moving wall in Southern California for 2008.
