Sheared hydrant diverts Bel Air traffic

BEL AIR, Calif. The sheared hydrant in front of Bel Air Presbyterian Church temporarily caused traffic on Mulholland Drive to be diverted through a school parking lot.

Water from the hydrant was shooting into power lines above and causing the lines to sway. L.A. firefighters had to wait for the Department of Water and Power crews to shut down the power to the lines before they could go in and shut the water off.

The power lines shut down affected the church and a small school nearby.

The water was gushing so high, it was visible from the 405 Freeway.
