Riverside cop fatally shoots suspect

RIVERSIDE, Calif. A police officer was doing a vehicle check at a gas station on the corner of Van Buren Boulevard and Wells Avenue Thursday night when he was confronted by a suspect, police said.

The suspect, who was in his 30s, ran, but the officer caught up to him about two blocks away, and police said the suspect was fatally shot after he reached for a gun.

The suspect's weapon was recovered at the scene.

The officer was not injured in the incident.
