2 charged in Burbank woman's murder

February 27, 2009 12:00:00 AM PST
Two men were charged Friday with murder in the shooting death of a woman who opened the front door of her Burbank home early Wednesday morning. Armen Mangasaryan, 29, and Arpiar Terrgalstanyan, 20, pleaded not guilty Friday afternoon in Burbank Superior Court.

The criminal complaint alleges that it was Mangasaryan who fired the shot that killed Jasmine Voskanian.

Terrgalstanyan is additionally charged with one felony count of possession of a silencer and two felony counts of possession of an assault weapon, including a semiautomatic rifle.

Police summoned to the victim's home in the 4200 block of West Jacaranda Avenue about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday found her lying in the doorway.

The 49-year-old woman had answered either a knock at the door or the doorbell before being shot once.

"The motive is believed to be a failure to repay a monetary debt," Burbank police Sgt. Robert Quesada said Thursday. "This was not a random shooting."

Mangasaryan was arrested Wednesday night and Terrgalstanyan was arrested early Thursday, authorities said.

Both men are due in Pasadena Superior Court on Monday, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require them to stand trial.
