Instructor Yumi Lee says Jukari is a combination of Reebok fitness and Cirque du Soleil inspiration.
"Jukari is the Sicilian word for to have fun," said Yumi Lee.
The class utilizes personal trapezes to jump, lunge, pike, straddle and sometimes, just hang around.
"It's just a great fun total body suspension workout. The concept is core training, functional training," she said.
The workout also includes interval training, incorporating bouts of cardio with strength and stretch.
"It burns more calories, it burns more fat, you have a longer after burn, and you're strengthening your body while you're burning fat," Lee said.
The fly set apparatus has ropes, loops, bars that allow the exerciser to stretch, flex and pretty much do anything they want.
"It gets your body to move in a way that it has never had to move before," Lee said, adding that pregnant women need clearance to take the class.
Lee says those desk jockeys with neck and shoulder injuries find this workout relieves work-related pain and pressure.
The fly set holds 2,000 pounds.
"Anybody can do it. We've had people who have never worked out before who love it," Lee said.
If the trapeze at the pier is too scary, and the hammock at Crunch yoga is too serene, Jukari might be the bar to belly up to.
"Yes it's fun. It's fun when you're done," said Karen Maruyana.
Currently the class is offered at the Jukari Fit to Fly studio on La Brea, along with select Equinox gyms worldwide. Taking a twirl will cost $20 per class, but the first one is free.
"The trapeze it's so special it's so different you know? I had a lot of fun," said Christina Minh.
