Van Amstel reveals 'Dancing' secrets

Louis Van Amstel is returning to "Dancing With the Stars" for his fifth time round. He will be paired with Kelly Osbourne in the ninth season of the ABC competition."It's real exciting to be a part of it from day one," said Louis.

Louis is one of the original cast members, and glided though four years of the show. He says he clearly remembers that first season in the summer of 2005. There were six couples and was paired with Trista Sutter on a small set filled with big nerves.

The show proved to be a hit and quickly grew in size and stature. Over the years he's filled his dance card with Lisa Rinna, Monique Coleman and Priscilla Presley. Now for season nine we see the biggest cast yet, but at its core it's still the same show.

"The format of the show has not changed. You get a celebrity with little or no training. And for this season, no training," Louis joked. "I have my work cut out for me this season."

Louis is already kicking it up with his partner Kelly.

"We have so much fun," said Louis. "She's a little naughty, so am I. We're a good team."

To spice things up, all the competitors will be in for a few surprises as this season progresses.

"They've added dances none of us has ever done," said Louis. "There's double elimination in the middle, some weeks where people at home do not vote at all."

Another major change this season, as Louis jokingly referred to above, the rehearsal time will be severely limited.

"I think it's actually a good thing, too many injuries," said Louis. "I'm about health. You need to make sure you warm up, cool down, do other activity than just dance."

Louis continues to teach a cardio ballroom class in Sherman Oaks. Every week, he hopes to prove you don't have to be famous to get into his healthy rhythms.

"If its Kelly Osbourne, or women in my class, it's the same," said Louis. "Come in with no experience, and then after a while, they are dancers."

The three-day "Dancing With the Stars" season premiere kicks off Monday, September 21 right here on ABC7.
