Police say that a woman called 911 to report that her brother and several friends had been shot.
"A number of male Hispanics approached a group," LAPD Lt. Alan Hamilton said. "There was a very brief verbal exchange, some shots were fired and at that point the victims ran from the location and the suspects also fled in a different direction."
When the gunfire stopped three adults and one juvenile were hit.
One of the adult victims was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other three victims are expected to survive.
Detectives aren't sure how many suspects were involved, but they do believe the gunmen and the victims are rival gang members.
