USC selects Provost Nikias as president

LOS ANGELES The Board of Trustees voted unanimously Wednesday night to name C. L. Max Nikias the next president of USC.

The change will take effect next August when Steven Sample's retirement becomes official.

Nikias has been Sample's second-in-command for the past five years. He is a 19-year USC veteran and a former dean of its engineering school. He will become the university's 11th president.

USC interviewed more than 75 candidates for the position.
