MORENO VALLEY, Calif. --
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department has released a possible motive for a shooting that claimed the lives of two men at a Moreno Valley home last Thursday. Investigators now believe that Carmelo Garcia-Palacio, 20, and Miguel Martinez-Altanerano, 30, were involved in smuggling illegal immigrants and got into a fight over the profits.
It is unclear whether the two men shot each other or if someone else fired on them. Two other people were wounded in the shooting.
One man reportedly walked to a cell phone store to get help. Witnesses say he claimed he was shot during an argument after a smuggler demanded $3,700 from him or his family.
