Students in CSU system brace for fee hikes

SAN FRANCISCO According to the Los Angeles Times, Cal State University officials are proposing a two-step increase, raising undergraduate fees by 5 percent for the rest of the school year and an additional 10 percent for next year.

That would mean undergraduate students would pay $2,220 for the spring semester, up from $2,115 this fall.

UC administrators say they're also talking about a jump in fees for next year.

Votes on both proposals are expected in November.

If approved, the fee hikes would come on top of stiff increases over the last two years.

However, administrators say they're needed to pay for rising costs in and out of the classroom.
