Nine-year-old Carson is being treated for his condition at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The two were given a $500 K-mart gift card, which they used to buy toys for Carson and other kids at the hospital. Rodriguez said he's happy to have made a new friend.
"What's really great about him is now he's kind of cancer-free right now," he said. "I love helping people and for me to do this it's really, really great."
Rodriguez is something of an expert on toys. K-mart recently sent him on a mission to test out the so-called "fab-15" top toys of the season.
