LA decides to lease parking garages for cash

HOLLYWOOD

The L.A. City Council has postponed a decision on whether to go through with another round of budget cuts.

Wednesday, the council approved the plan to put nine city parking garages under private operation despite objections from many business owners who worry that new, higher rates will keep customers away.

A vote on budget cuts has been put off until Friday. The specific terms of the garage leasing proposal will be revealed Friday.

The cuts could include more layoffs and furloughs for every city agency except the police department.
