GLAAD honors Ricky Martin, Kristin Chenoweth

NEW YORK

Martin will get the Vito Russo Award, which is given to an openly gay media professional who has made a difference in promoting equal rights, at /*GLAAD*/'s 22nd annual Media Awards on March 19. The pop singer announced last year that he is gay.

Also, Chenoweth will receive the Vanguard Award. The Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress and singer is getting the award for publicly defending the LGBT community.

In May 2010, Chenoweth publicly defended gay actors' ability to play straight roles. She defended gay actors including Sean Hayes, her co-star in "Promises, Promises."

Past recipients of the Vanguard Award include Drew Barrymore, Charlize Theron, Antonio Banderas, Sharon Stone, Eric McCormack, Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minnelli, Kathy Griffin and Whoopi Goldberg.

Bravo's senior vice president Andy Cohen will be hosting the event.
