Counterfeit karaoke machines seized at Port of Los Angeles

Nearly 2,000 counterfeit karaoke machines were seized at the Port of Los Angeles on May 16.

Nearly 2,000 counterfeit karaoke machines were seized at the Port of Los Angeles on May 16.

LA/Long Beach seaport officers and agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) discovered 1,932 karaoke machines with counterfeit brand markings on them.

The machines were seized from a sea container from China.

The estimated manufacturer's suggested retail price of the seized machines was valued at $964,068. CBP officials gave the domestic value as $852,368.

According to the CBP, the L.A. port had a record-breaking year in 2010 with 863 trade seizures with a domestic value exceeding $34 million, marking a 42 percent increase in seizures from 2009.
