Jim Carrey says birds in 'Mr. Popper's Penguins' were real

LOS ANGELES

As the story progresses, he tries to keep them in his New York City apartment because it brings joy to his kids and maybe his ex-wife, too.

Sometimes, the penguins are computer generated, but most of the time, Carrey says they're the real deal.

"I'd get on the set and there would be these things on the floor for me to look at and I'd hear these things in the distance," Carrey said as he honked like a penguin. "They're very loud, very annoying. You can't work anyway when they're doing that so you might as well have them on the set."

"Mr. Popper's Penguins" pops into theatres Friday.
