Woman, father arrested in hit-and-run that killed teen in Canoga Park

CANOGA PARK, LOS ANGELES

Alex Romero was a well-liked young man about to graduate from Chatsworth High School.

His bright future came to a sudden end on April 20 when he was struck and killed as he rode his bicycle on De Soto Avenue near Valerio Street.

Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of the alleged hit-and-run driver, 23-year-old Dominique Rush. She was taken into custody at her grandmother's home in Oxnard.

Her 44-year-old father, Steven Rush, was arrested at his Porter Ranch home.

Investigators said he was involved in concealing his daughter's crime.

"It can't be called a happy moment, at least that's not what we feel. But the satisfaction to know that the Almighty has done justice to the death of our beloved Alex," said Liz Fuentes, the victim's aunt.

Detectives said community leads and the help of the media led to the arrests.
