PG&E appeals order to supply water to Hinkley

HINKLEY, Calif.

Pacific Gas & Electric is appealing an order that requires it to provide permanent replacement water to residents affected by toxic groundwater.

The utility has been providing bottled water at 80 locations in the town.

The Mojave Desert town's battle with PG & E over chromium-tainted groundwater was made famous by the 2000 movie "Erin Brockovich," starring Julia Roberts.

PG&E spokesman Jeff Smith told the San Bernardino County Sun that the utility is committed to working with Hinkley and the Regional Water Quality Board, Lahontan Region, which issued the Oct. 11 abatement order.
