Gov. Brown proposes Cal Grant GPA increase

January 15, 2012 12:00:00 AM PST
College students receiving Cal Grants may have to study a bit harder in order to keep receiving financial assistance from the state.

The Los Angeles Times said that Gov. Brown is proposing to increase the minimum grade point average requirement for Cal Grant A recipients from 3.0 to 3.25.

Cal Grant A currently covers more than $5,000 dollars at California State Universities and up to about $12,000 at University of California schools.

The minimum GPA for Cal Grant B recipients would go from 2.0 to 2.75. Cal Grant B is for lower-income students typically attending community colleges.
