Philippe's raises price of 9-cent coffee

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Philippe's may be best known for its French dip sandwich, but it's also known for its 9-cent coffee. But on Feb. 2, the price of a cup will jump to 45 cents.

Philippe's owners said the cost of coffee beans has doubled in the last two years.

"We still think we're able to maintain a very, very reasonable price with this 45-cent cup of coffee but we just had to recover some of the costs of the coffee itself," said Mark Massengill, manager of Philippes.

Some costumers may not come back because of the price increase but the folks at Philippes are pretty confident this isn't going to hurt business. At 45 cents a cup, it's still one of the best deals around.

The restaurant last increased the price of its coffee 35 years ago, from 5 to 9 cents a cup.

The good news is that coffee is still included if you order a full breakfast.
