Pepe Aguilar, mariachi sensation, gets Walk of Fame star near father's

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES

Latin superstar Pepe Aguilar was honored with a star Thursday morning. The four-time Grammy winner thanked his fans, who came from all over the Southland for a glimpse at the 43-year-old singing sensation.

The singer's star sits right alongside the star of his late father, Mexican film and singing icon Antonio Aguilar.

Aguilar has built a loyal following by blending catchy pop songs with traditional Mexican mariachi arrangements. He has sold more than 12 million records, creating a fan base that spans all ages.

"It's important because he's an American citizen and he's also representing Mexico and he's proud of it. And we should all be," said fan Sophia Del Real of South Los Angeles.

For some of the hundreds who crowded onto Hollywood Boulevard for the ceremony, it was a chance to be proud of their Mexican heritage. Others were there because they were simply fans of Aguilar's music.

Aguilar will perform at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City next month. But Thursday, the focus was on the 5600 block of Hollywood Boulevard, where a father and son were reunited - if not in song, at least in stone.
