2 killed when plane crashes into homes in Indiana

SOUTH BEND, Ind.

The Beechcraft Premier I twin-jet had just left Tulsa, Okla. when it crashed near South Bend Regional Airport.

Authorities say the plan hit three homes before coming to a stop. Two of four people on board died in the crash. Four people were taken to the hospital. It's unclear if the four were on the plane or on the ground.

The FAA says the plane experienced mechanical trouble.

Part of a neighborhood near the airport was evacuated after the crash. Electricity was also cut off to part of the neighborhood. Fire authorities said it was possible some residents would be allowed back into their homes Sunday night.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
