Mountain lion kills deer along Mulholland Highway

LOS ANGELES

A female mountain lion was on top of a deer it had just killed. Rangers say it's unusual that the kill happened right along a road.

Motorcycle rider Irv Nilsen captured the moment on his camera Sunday morning. He says the cat later dragged the deer into dense brush in the nearby woods.

The National Park Service has been tracking and studying mountain lions in the Santa Monica Mountains for more than a decade now.

This cat has been identified as P-23, a young female that recently separated from its mother.
