Gang member arrested in fatal shooting of 6-year-old Tiana Ricks

RIVERSIDE, Calif.

Keandre Johnson was arrested without incident Tuesday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Dept.

Johnson allegedly fired a gun at a family gathering on the 25000 block of Harker Lane in Moreno Valley on Sept. 7 at about 9:30 p.m. Tyrell Ricks and his 6-year-old daughter Tiana were struck in the shooting. The 26-year-old father survived, but Tiana died at the hospital.

Johnson was identified as the shooter by investigators and an arrest warrant was issued Tuesday, and he was subsequently arrested and booked into the Robert Presely Detention Center on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Authorities have not released a motive. Investigators say Johnson was out on parole at the time of the shooting. He is due in court on Wednesday.

"You have tore up our family. You have hurt us deeply. We have to walk around with this the rest of our lives," said Tiana's aunt, Carolyn Cook.

Tiana's father is recovering from his injuries. His family says he had just moved back to California from Indiana after his girlfriend was killed in a car wreck there. The murder of Tiana is just the latest tragedy for him and family members.

" We are struggling through this, and this is a hard situation for us. It's really hard, because Tiana was a beautiful little girl and she didn't deserve this," said Cook.

News of Tiana's death caught the attention of two rappers: Long Beach native Snoop Dogg and The Game. Both have made donations to her family to cover funeral and other expenses.
