Firefighters battle brush fire along 405 Freeway near Getty Center; evacuation warnings issued

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A brush fire burning on a hillside along the 405 Freeway near the Getty Center has prompted evacuation warnings Wednesday afternoon.

The fire had grown to approximately 5 acres as of 5 p.m., and officials requested air and ground resources to assist crews responding to the scene. A visible plume of smoke hovered over the surrounding area.

A brush fire was burning along the 405 Freeway near Getty Center Drive in the Sepulveda Pass.

Evacuation warnings were issued for zones LFD-0895 and LFD-0967. The Getty Center has been closed due to the fire, according to the museum's website.

Despite the response, lanes on the 405 Freeway remained open. The fire is burning along the southbound side of the freeway, north of the Getty Center.

The fire comes as Southern California experiences dangerously hot temperatures.
