Ex-Diamond Bar teacher convicted of sex with 13-year-old student

LOS ANGELES

Steven Andrews, 43, was found guilty Wednesday of 17 sex-related counts: six counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, five counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object, three counts of lewd act upon a child, two counts of oral copulation of a person under 16 and one count of possession or control of child pornography.

Andrews taught the 13-year-old student for about a year at Lorbeer Middle School before the sexual relationship began in May 2011. The incidents took place both on and off campus.

A fellow teacher tipped off the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department about the possible relationship, which led to Andrews' arrest on Sept. 30, 2011.

He has remained in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 24 at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Pomona.

The maximum sentence is 15 years and eight months in state prison. He also must register as a sex offender.
