Glendale offers $50K reward for identity of hit-run driver who killed elderly man

GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- The city of Glendale is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the identity, arrest and conviction of a hit-and-run driver who killed an 81-year-old man.

The reward was announced Tuesday and authorities released surveillance video that could help the public identify the driver.

Around 8 p.m. Saturday, Martiros Arutyunyan was legally crossing Broadway Boulevard at the intersection of Belmont Street. He was hit by a newer model white sedan, authorities said. The suspect, who authorities believe is a woman, fled the scene and drove eastbound on Broadway.

Arutyunyan sustained head injuries and later died at the hospital.

Over the course of the investigation, detectives recovered surveillance video showing the crash. Authorities hope the release of the video will help the public to identify the driver.

Police believe the vehicle sustained damage to the headlight, front bumper, hood and windshield.

The investigation was ongoing.
