CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- On the day Giovani dos Santos made headlines by transferring from Villarreal to the LA Galaxy, the forward limped off the field at halftime in Mexico's 4-4 draw against Trinidad-Tobago in Group C of the Gold Cup.

The news from the Mexico camp, however, is that the injury is not as bad as it could be, although he is likely to miss Sunday's quarterfinal showdown against Costa Rica in New Jersey.

"Unfortunately, he left with a problem in his left abductor muscle," Mexico doctor Gerardo Aguilar told reporters after the game, ruling out a fracture. "If it is fasciitis, Gio will be out for three to five days."

Aguilar stressed that further tests would be conducted to determine the exact nature of the injury.

El Tri coach Miguel Herrera said in his post-game press conference that Dos Santos heard a sound in his leg the last play of the first half and immediately asked to be taken off the field. He was replaced by Oribe Peralta.
