Oklahoma oil tycoon has to pay ex-wife nearly $1B in divorce settlement

An Oklahoma oil tycoon has been ordered to pay his ex-wife nearly $1 billion in one of the biggest divorce settlements ever.

Harold Hamm, the man behind one of America's fastest growing energy companies -- Continental Resource -- has to pay his former wife, Sue Ann, $995 million.

The nearly two-month divorce trial ended last month with the ruling that Harold has to pay Sue Ann $322.7 million by the end of this year. After that, she will receive $7 million a month.

So what does $7 million a month buy you these days? How about 140 2015 BMW convertibles, 70 Kentucky Derby contenders, or a little getaway in the Hollywood Hills.

The couple had been married since 1988 and had no prenuptial agreement. Hamm's fortune is estimated at $17.6 billion.

Some of the largest-ever U.S. divorce settlements have been kept private, but the Hamm judgment is among the biggest on record.

The award would make Sue Ann Hamm one of the 100 wealthiest women in America, according to Forbes' rankings.
