3 killed, including 1 ejected onto roof of Monterey Park home, after car slams into parked vehicles

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- Three people were killed and two others were injured, including a 7-year-old girl, when a Jeep SUV soared through the air and crashed into several parked vehicles early Friday in Monterey Park, authorities said.

The violent crash occurred about 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Graves Avenue and Cecil Street.

Investigators said the driver of the Jeep was speeding and lost control.

Surveillance video shows the moment the Jeep flies through the air and slams into the cars, which were parked in a driveway.

The three people inside the Jeep were killed.

"Speed was a factor based on our preliminary investigation and the skid marks. One of the occupants of the vehicle was ejected from the vehicle, and during the recovery portion of the investigation, they were found on the top of the roof," said Monterey Park PD Capt. Bill Cuevas.

A man who wished to be identified only as Felix L said he was one of four people inside the home where the crash occurred.

He said the parked vehicles most likely deflected the flying SUV away from the home. Felix, who celebrated his 29th birthday Thursday, convinced someone was looking out for him.

"I felt like I was blessed ... to know that my family was ok," he said.

Those who were killed in the incident were not immediately identified.

The crash remains under investigation.
