LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles County Fire Department is mourning the death of a fire captain who had been with the department for more than 25 years.

Capt. Michael H. Mercado died recently from a medical condition while off-duty, the department said.

The agency corrected an earlier statement describing his passing as an "active duty death."
