BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was arrested in connection with the fatal stabbings of three family members - an 8-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy and a 44-year-old woman - at a Baldwin Park home, authorities said Friday.

Baldwin Park police responded to a disturbance call just before 7 p.m. Thursday in the 4700 block of Bogard Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Three people were found dead inside the home, sheriff's Lt. Michael Modica said. All of them appeared to have suffered multiple stab wounds in the upper body.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the victims as Mia Chantelle Narvaez, 8; Paul Sebastian Manangan, 16; and Rona Nate, 44.

Investigators determined the 23-year-old suspect was related to the victims and lived at the home, but further details on their relationship were not released.

Neighbors said they heard screams and saw a terrified girl run from the house.

"You heard the little girl screaming coming out and crying for help, saying, 'Someone call 911. My brother stabbed my mom in the back, I saw blood,'" said Nathan Garcia, who lives in the neighborhood.

The suspect, who was initially detained as a person of interest, was later arrested on suspicion of murder. His name has not been released.

Authorities said he tried to drive away from the home when officers first arrived, but he later crashed in a cul-de-sac and was detained.

"It was a very scary feeling because at first, we just hear screaming, we have no idea what's going on, and we all come out to see what's going on, and then to find out that this is happening in our neighborhood," said Edna Figueroa.

Neighbors said the family of five is from the Philippines.

A motive for the incident has not been determined.
