CHINA -- A 4-month-old bear cub has apparently changed the mind of the owner of a farm in China to turn his facility into a sanctuary.

An adorable bear cub named "Smudge" was rescued from Nanning Bear Farm by the group Animals Asia Foundation. The farm reportedly traps bears in small cages from birth in order to harvest their bile.

The farmer had a change of heart when his daughter convinced him of the cruelty of the trade. Bear bile is sold as a traditional Chinese medicine.

The farm is being turned into a bear sanctuary and education center, according to Animals Asia.
