HARLEM -- Christmas is for many a day of good deeds and giving back. That tradition was very much on display Thursday.
New York Cares, the group that finds coats for homeless men and women to brave the winter months, launched their distribution at the New York City rescue mission.
And handing out food, along with gifts to children, was Rev. Al Sharpton and his National Action Network, joined by Eric Garner's widow Esaw and his mother, Gwen Carr, on the Garner family's first Christmas since his death in an apparent police chokehold.
The family and Sharpton also observed a moment of silence for the 2 NYPD officers shot to death in Brooklyn and paused in prayer for their families.
The Garner family has condemned violence and the killings of the officers.
