ALTADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- A high school teacher arrested for kidnapping three students and threatening them with a knife in Altadena is out of jail on bond Tuesday.

Edward Maust, 34, was suspended from Arroyo Pacific Academy in Arcadia after allegedly trying to kidnap three 17-year-old students.

Authorities allege Maust was intoxicated and asked the three students for a ride in their car on June 7. Maust is accused of threatening the students with a knife and ordering them to take him to a Jack in the Box.

One of the teens managed to call 911. When a sheriff's helicopter found them, Maust fled.

He surrendered Sunday at the Altadena Sheriff's Station.

Arroyo is a private school with about 130 students. Maust taught social studies and physical education.
