'Annie' movie review: Strictly for kids 10 and under
An updated version of the musical 'Annie' is new to theatres this weekend. It's aimed at being fun family entertainment, but can you bet your bottom dollar on it?

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The updated version of the musical "Annie" takes place in a very modern world.

Quvenzhane Wallis plays the title role, an upbeat foster kid who believes she's going to be reunited with her parents.

Cameron Diaz is her not-so-caring foster mom, and Jamie Foxx, the equivalent of Daddy Warbucks, is the man who could change Annie's life, or perhaps vice versa.

This "Annie" is probably best for girls around the age of the girls in the film. It plays to that crowd. So, if you're no longer 10, it probably won't hold your interest all the way through. But for kids, there's song and dance and silly stuff.

They may love it, and you know you'll be hearing "It's a Hard Knock Life" in your house afterwards. Some of the songs in the film sound like they got some help from Auto-Tune.

The stars seem to be having fun, and I can appreciate that.

Diaz does take it a little over-the-top at times, but she and Foxx have their moments.

This movie's aim is to purely entertain. And if you're a kid, I think "Annie" does that. But adults might want to consider some more grown-up movie options.
