Fire crews: Oil burning underground

August 4, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
Fire crews have cleared away brush from some land they think is covering an underground fire. The hot spot is located in the hills about 30 miles northwest of Santa Clarita. The Ventura County Star says the ground in that area has been measured at 812 degrees. Similar emissions have been recorded at that spot before.

Firefighters think flames in an underground oil field could be the source.
