MTA replaces paper tickets on buses

LOS ANGELES Starting Sunday, reusable electronic fare cards will replace some of the paper passes on L.A. public transit.

To promote use of the new transit access passes, or TAP cards, Metro will give them to customers when they buy a $5 day pass until April 11.

After that, the plastic cards will cost $2.

The cards are rechargeable and will be sold at vending machines.

Coins and bills will still be accepted on buses and trains.
