Glendale PD investigates year's 1st murder

GLENDALE, Calif. It happened around 11 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of a strip mall in the 300 block of West Colorado Street, just south of the Glendale Galleria.

Police say 35-year-old Ara Terunyan of North Hollywood was fatally shot as he sat in a parked sport utility vehicle in front of an Allstate Insurance office. Employees witnessed the shooting and quickly dove for cover, according to Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department.

Witnesses say a man driving a blue Ford pulled up next to a wall, walked up to the S.U.V. and fired multiple times into the window. He then jumped back over the wall and sped away.

"This guy is shooting one time and then another time," said Umberto Rios who works in a nearby business. He said he also saw a woman jump out of the victim's vehicle.

The woman and nearly a dozen witnesses were taken to the police station for questioning.

Police believe the victim was targeted by the shooter.

Anyone with information is asked to call Glendale Police at (818) 548-3987.
