Exclusive: Death of single mom suspicious

TORRANCE, Calif. Torrance Police were called to an apartment building in the 2400 block of 227th Street in Torrance at around 2 p.m. Monday. The 28-year-old woman's mother discovered her body.

Sources tell Eyewitness news that the victim's name is Torie Anderson, a single mother. They say she has a small daughter.

Police have not released much information in the case, but they do confirm the woman's death is suspicious. Authorities have not determined her cause of death or if a weapon was involved. They have not released any information on possible suspects.

Neighbors say they heard yelling coming from Torie's apartment on Sunday night.

"Torie's mom was outside. I was just on the computer at my apartment. She was just screaming like, 'She's dead! You need to call somebody,'" said Michael Kendrick, who lives two doors away from Anderson's apartment. "It was crazy. It was heartbreaking to see. I was out there and was like, 'What's going on?' And all the neighbors were like, 'They found her body ... just dead. They opened the door and her daughter was saying Mommy's sleeping.'"

"Family's devastated. She was well-liked, well-loved ... sweetest gal you could work with," said Able Valenzula, one of Anderson's coworkers. "She had a small, toddler child ... beautiful little girl, Savannah. So we're devastated. We want to know who did this."

Those who worked with Anderson say she was a receptionist at Liberty Appliance on Lomita Boulevard. The business is said to be owned by Anderson's father and uncle.

The victim's young daughter, a toddler is said to be in the care of a family member.
