Campaign underway to save puppet theatre

SANTA MONICA, Calif. The Santa Monica Puppetry Center threw a fundraiser Thursday night at the Santa Monica Pier.

The center, which has been in Santa Monica for over 12 years, is set to close Sunday, due to declining revenue and interest. However, the kids who have learned about puppets and marionettes from the center, and their parents, hope to keep the doors open.

"I'm very appreciative to all of these volunteers who are audience members and whatnot, who have come to man this little booth and do this outreach to the public," said Steve Meltzer, Santa Monica Puppetry Center.

If you would like to donate, you may visit the center's Web site at www.puppetmagic.com.
