7 coyotes killed in Griffith Park

LOS ANGELES According to the /*Los Angeles Times*/, government officials are calling the attacks an imminent threat to public safety.

Wildlife officials say one of the attacks involved a man who said a coyote bit him on the foot near the Travel Town area Wednesday night. He was not seriously injured, according to the state Department of Fish and Game.

Authorities learned of the attacks too late to collect DNA, so there is no confirmation that the coyotes killed are the ones responsible for the biting attacks.

Urban sprawl has reduced the size of the coyotes' natural habitat, and they are forced to look for food and shelter elsewhere, such as backyards and parks.
