Hollywood shooting locks down schools

A female student was shot near Helen Bernstein High School in Hollywood at about 2 p.m. Tuesday. The shooting prompted a lockdown of schools in the area.The LAPD said the female student, 16, was shot near the 1300 block of North Wilton Place, just south of Helen Bernstein High School.

Police set up a perimeter between N. Wilton Place and Van Ness Avenue, and from Lexington to La Mirada avenues while they searched for suspects. The school lockdown order was lifted later Tuesday afternoon. The investigation is ongoing.

The student was shot in the hip. Her injury was non-life-threatening, and she was transported to a local hospital.

The student's condition was stable, according to L.A. Unified School District spokesperson Ellen Morgan.

Police did not have a motive for the shooting.

No suspects were in custody Tuesday afternoon.
