'Gifts for guns' program makes SoCal safer

Sheriff's deputies were in Compton Tuesday, inviting residents to turn in their firearms in exchange for gift cards from Ralph's, Target and other retailers.Participants received $100 holiday gift cards to use at local retailers and grocery stores in exchange for their guns.

Individuals turning in assault rifles received $200 gift cards and those turning in poor quality guns walked away with $50 cards.

The life saving exchange program ends when the guns are destroyed at sheriff's headquarters.
