In a Zerona treatment, a little laser is used to get rid of unwanted fat. Cosmetic surgeon Adam J. Rubinstein says when the cold laser energy is absorbed into fat cells, it allows the fat to exit the body.
The procedure is said to have no incisions and minimal pain. "I don't feel anything at all," said one patient, who describes the treatment to have contoured her curves to look more "natural."
In one study, Zerona patients lost an average of about three and a half inches. Patient Meryse Cerant was satisfied with her results. "I did burn some inches, and my clothes fit a lot less snug, and it's easier to shop now."
Results are typically visible by the third or fourth treatment, but how long the treatment will last is unknown. "There's no long-term data and no guarantees," explained Dr. Sarvam Terkonda.
The procedure should only be performed by a board certified plastic surgeon and only after the patient fully understands what kind of results to expect.
Multiple treatments are required for Zerona (like Merona) and the cost depends on the chosen clinic.
