Hundreds of pot plants found in warehouse

NORTH HILLS, Calif. Someone reported an unusual smell coming from a warehouse unit near Roscoe Place and Hayvenhurst Avenue.

Police arrived on the scene a short time later and found hundreds of marijuana plants inside the warehouse unit, six weapons and a suspect. Detectives say this sort of indoor-grow operation is becoming more and more common.

"You know the industrial areas of the San Fernando Valley are becoming more and more promulgated, if you will, with these indoor marijuana growths. They are very lucrative," said LAPD Det. Robert Holcomb. "An operation like this could net approximately $100,000 worth of manicure bud marijuana, $5-, $6,000 a pound and over 200 plants."

Officials say the hydroponic growing system had plants growing in water, under a light and fan system powered through rickety wiring.

Police are looking for a second suspect.
