Aunt allegedly lit fire in house full of kids

POMONA, Calif. The fire is being investigated as arson.

Firefighters responded quickly to the fire in the 1100 block of West Orange Grove Avenue just after 9 p.m. and had a knockdown in less than 5 minutes.

Five children, ages 3 to 9, were in the home with her on Sunday night when the woman allegedly set fire to the home. She had apparently been living in the home with her extended family.

The children are OK, and the only injury was to woman accused of starting the fire. She is being treated for second- and third-degree burns.

A few homes to the rear of the home were evacuated as a precaution, but damage from the fire was contained to a back room of the house.

Neighbors said that it's tough to believe that the woman they've grown to know would actually set fire to a home with her nieces and nephews inside.

Police have not released a motive for starting the fire.
