Man tortures and kills 84-year-old woman

ANAHEIM, Calif. /*Anthony Darnell Wade*/, 25, was indicted on Thursday on one felony count of special circumstances murder. The special circumstances include murder in the commission of rape, robbery and murder with torture.

On January 11, Wade broke into the home of 84-year-old widow /*Bessie Whyman*/. Prosecutors say he tied her hands and feet and repeatedly stabbed her with a kitchen knife. He then left her body in the living room while he ransacked her house and stole her purse and car before driving to San Bernardino.

Whyman's body was found several hours later by officers who were conducting a welfare check.

Police say when Wade was arrested he was in possession of Whyman's stolen credit cards. He's being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on May 5 in Santa Ana.

Wade is eligible for the death penalty.
