Teen stabbed by fellow student at school

PARAMOUNT, Calif. Authorities responded to the school's west campus on 14708 Paramount Boulevard at 9:18 a.m. The two 13-year-old boys were reportedly arguing when when one pulled a knife and wounded the other.

The victim was transported to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

The alleged attacker, another 13-year-old boy, was detained for by campus security and turned over to law enforcement.

The school was briefly placed on lockdown before students were dismissed. Deputies questioned three witnessesand spent hours searching the campus for the knife. There is no word on whether they found the weapon.

The circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain unclear. Detectives won't say if it was gang related, however, some students say the teens are in different gangs.

Parents were alarmed by the violence on the second day of summer school and want the school district to do more to ensure safety on campus.

"To get more security at least because I don't know how they can prevent this. Kids are kids and they don't think," said parent Rosa Lopez.

The names of the victim and suspect were withheld.
