June 28, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
Thousands of California's registered nurses have been punished for misconduct in other states and hundreds have even lost nursing licenses. The state Board of Registered Nursing has learned that about 3,500 of its nurses have been sanctioned in other states for sexual abuse, rampant drug use, neglect and more, without affecting their California licenses.

About 2,000 of them now face discipline in California.

The California Department of Consumer Affairs, which oversees the agencies that license nurses, said the large number of new disciplinary cases will be challenging to process.
